Black Violin is an American hip hop duo from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, comprising classically trained string instrumentalists Kev Marcus and Wil B, who play the violin and viola, respectively. They gained popularity by covering hip-hop songs on their instruments in local clubs and won Showtime at the Apollo after submitting a tape. Their unique sound caught the attention of Alicia Keys' manager, leading to performances at the Billboard Awards and collaborations with artists like Mike Shinoda, the Wu-Tang Clan, Alessia Cara, 2 Chainz, and Lil Wayne. Black Violin has toured extensively, playing up to 200 shows a year, and released two independent albums before achieving acclaim with their 2015 album "Stereotypes." The duo now performs with DJ SPS and drummer Nat Stokes, continuing to blend classical and hip-hop elements in their innovative music.
